Fainting and Passing Out: What Should You Do
A person faints when they lose consciousness for a short time due to a lack of oxygen reaching their brain.

Causes of fainting
- allergies
- depression
- extreme pain
- dehydration
- heart condition
- atherosclerosis
- hyperventilation
- anxiety\seizures
- coughing excessively
- standing up too quickly
- panic or anxiety attacks
- consuming drugs or alcohol
- When blood pressure is high.
- fear or other emotional trauma
- diabetic blood sugar reduction
- abrupt lowering of blood pressure
- during a bowel movement, straining
- standing in one position for too long
- an arrhythmia, or unsteady heartbeat
- physical exertion in hot temperatures
- chronic lung disease, such as emphysema
What to Do?
You can help someone fainting by lifting their feet above the level of their heart. Also, you can ask them to sit with their heads resting between their legs.
It would be best to loosen the constrictive apparel like a belt, tight collar, etc. Keep the individual seated or lying down for a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes; chilled water is also beneficial.
Make an emergency call to 911 if the person stops breathing.
